The playgroup team
Our team is made up of three dedicated members of paid staff with over twenty years of childcare experience between them.
One parent/carer is on duty every day to maintain the legally required adult to child ratio.
We welcome children from all backgrounds, faiths and cultures. We’re based in Newington, South Edinburgh, but there is no formal catchment area and we have children attend from across Edinburgh.
We enjoy learning more about the world and introduce the children to other cultures and seasonal events through our weekly theme.
Each parent/carer carries out a number of duty days at the playgroup each term. On the day you help with things like preparing the snack, washing up and tidying away at the end of the morning. It’s also a lovely chance to see what your child gets up to with their new friends! Younger siblings are very welcome to come along on duty days.
Full details of what being on duty involves are available from our playgroup manager.
As a registered playgroup we are run by a voluntary committee made up of parent/carers of children at the playgroup.
The playgroup is very much a parent cooperative and not a drop in childcare facility. The committee members organise the employment and management of staff, playgroup finances, fundraising, the duty rota, and other aspects of running the playgroup. Regular minuted meetings are held to ensure the smooth running of the playgroup. If there is no committee there is no playgroup! You will be asked to return a questionnaire along with your enrollment form to let us know what contribution you would like to make.
Your opinions and ideas count so please do get involved.
The nursery fosters an ethos of continuous improvement and we always welcome suggestions and offers of help.
